The Most Popular Phone Xiaomi Redmi . Trounced Samsung in China last year!Only $127 take it home

I tested this device in the last couple of weeks and my overall impressions are great. I installed all my usual apps such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Gmail and so on and I wasn't disappointed. Despite the fact that it only has 1 GB of RAM, the phone is blazing fast, thanks to MIUI v6, a very well optimized user interface. Some may find MIUI v6 to be just a cheap iOS clone, but I strongly disagree.
Just like the previous generation, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 doesn't impress in terms of design, as it's a budget smartphone, but comes in a very solid construction. The build is made entirely of plastic and has a rectangular shape with slightly curved edges that score pretty well in terms of ergonomics.
On the front we have the HD IPS 4.7" display, the 2 MP secondary camera, the proximity and light sensors and the capacitive navigation buttons and a small notification LED at the bottom. Unfortunately, the red capacitive buttons are not backlit.
The 4.7" HD IPS display provides clear, rich detail images thanks to the high pixel density (about 312 pixels per inch). The culors are slightly oversatured, but the contrast and viewing angles are great. Maximum brightness does not reach a very high level, but you shouldn't encounter major problems when using the device outdoors.
The rear hosts the 8 MP camera and a small LED flash. Near we can also find the noise cancellation microphone and a small speaker. The back surface is soft, feels great in the hand and has a very strong grip even after prolonged use.
The microUSB port and the microphone are located at the bottom, while the 3.5 mm audio jack is found on the upper side.
The volume rocker and power buton are located on the right side, somewhere in the middle, thus facilitating use with only one hand. The buttons have a very good feedback and respond pretty well. Analyzing the device from this perspective, we can get an idea about sizes. In terms of thickness it's comparable to an LG Nexus 5.

The integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad-Core 64 bit CPU clocked at 1.2 Ghz and 1 GB of RAM bring impressive performance. I haven't seen any lag or glitches, everything is smooth as butter. The phone is comparable in terms of performance with some phones which come at nearly 3 times the price of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 (HTC One Mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini and Motorola Moto G).
It works just fine in web browsing, document editing, HD video playing, e-mail and so on, and it even runs high end games at a decent framerate. Yes, this device is capable of playing Asphalt 8 or Dead Trigger 2 in excellent conditions.
The benchmark applications put it just behind LG Nexus 4, which is still a very fast device.
The Li-Po 2200 mAh battery provides a very nice battery life. Using it exclusively on the Vodafone Romania 4G network, I got about 4.5 hours of continuous use in web browsing, Facebook chat, YouTube and voice calls, while still maintaining a 12 hour standby time. Sure, the battery life can vary based on the usage scenario, but the results are still impressive.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 has 8 GB internal memory, of which only ~ 5.8 GB will be available for data storage. Fortunately, we have the possibility of using a microSD card up to 32 GB.
On Vodafone 4G network I got about 74 Mbps in downstream using the Speedtest by Ookla App. On Wi-Fi, being connected to a Wireless N router, the maximum speed was of about 81 Mbps, while the maximum internet connection speed is up to 500 Mbps.
The 8 MP camera is doing well in ideal light conditions as expected, but not as great in low light situations. It focuses rather quickly, but sometimes it focuses just wrong. Don't forget we are talking about a $128 smartphone.
The Redmi 2 runs Android 4.4.4 on which we have the proprietary Xiaomi interface, MIUI 6. At a first glance it may seem a mere clone of iOS, but after a few minutes of use you will find it very attractive and fast.
Everything runs very smooth, no delays, bottlenecks or other performance issues. The layout is similar to iOS as applications can only be grouped in folders within the main screen.
I was very attracted to MIUI as I think it's one of the best Android experiences. I even had it for a few months on my Nexus 5 a while back. In terms of performance, it's comparable to HTC Sense 6 or stock Android.
Conclusion:
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the undisputed leader in the segment of mid-range phones. For only  $130 you receive a great phone with a very fast 64 bit quad-core processor, 4.7 HD IPS screen and a 8 MP camera.
